Organisers of a summer ball should
always bear several key factors in mind -
Firstly you have to give value for money no matter whether the price of tickets are £10 each or £100+ each. Objective should always be to make people leave the event thinking they have just had a real bargain and the time of their lives.
By simply calling it a summer ball, charging a lot of money and expecting people to turn up is foolish (but does happen). You might get away with it once, but people will not return for an expensive event unless they have had a great time.
Even if the event is free of charge to attend people almost always make the effort to dress up for summer balls and this alone can cost a pretty penny.
Getting to and from the ball is another expense which can often be considerable as sensible people will not even consider driving if they are drinking all night.
Balls are usually annual affairs so therefore there is the perennial problem of trying to make this years better than the previous. Sometimes someone has to take over the organisers task from a former person who was very good at it.

In almost 30 years experience of summer balls the biggest mistake I have found is time and time again unsuitable entertainment being booked for the event.
Personal taste should never take preference over what is required for the job.
People will primarily want to have fun and must feel that sense of occasion. To make your summer ball the best you must book entertainment accordingly.
Make it fun - make it exciting - make everyone talk about how great it was.
Golden rule - quality suitable entertainment and not one second gap throughout from start to finish of your entire event + give options where possible.
