No other climb in the world that has featured in a listed cycling race is anything to compare with this beast.
Whilst 12.6 kilometres is nothing length wise, slopes of 24% in places make the big 3 French mountains look tame.
To get matters in to prospective in 1999 The Vuelta announced that in order to include a big climb to rival The Tour De France The Angliru would feature in that years Spanish tour schedule to which the reply was - "Its obviously just a publicity stunt"
Challenge will took place on Wednesday morning 7 Sept 2006 If the wind blows or the rain falls, it is a total suicide mission so leeway has to be allowed to achieve favourable conditions.
