THREE MOUNTAINS CHALLENGE

Alpe d'Heuz  The Col du Galibier  Mont Ventoux

Three Mountains ChallengeInternational entertainer Wayne Kennedy
having just returned from crooning at casino's
in the USA is now about to undertake another international expedition - but this month he is swapping dinner suit for cycling lycra !

Last year Wayne thought he was going to die when he attempted to cycle up Alpe d'Huez in 91 degree heat. Although he completed the task he feels he has unfinished business with the holy shrine for cyclists - a 9 mile climb to an altitude of 6100ft with 21 hairpin bends. Up to 1 million people will stand on the mountain and watch the Tour De France time trial on Wednesday 21st July.

Just for good measure the following day he is attempting the Col Du Galibier an even bigger mountain at 8680 ft and there could still be snow at the top. As if that isn't enough torture the day after he hopes to conquer the mighty Mont Ventoux - the mother of all evils is a crippling 13 mile climb to 6260 ft.

Map of Alpe d'Huez, Col du Galibier and Mont Ventoux in France

1958 Dutchman Charlie Gall wins on the Ventoux and goes back to the hotel in an ambulance. 1967 Englishman Tommy Simpson dies of exhaustion on the Ventoux. 1970 The King himself Eddie Mercx wins on the Ventoux and then goes off in an oxygen tent.

To do one mountain is an excellent achievement - but he has no idea if his body will stand up to 3 mountains of such magnitude in 3 days.

Have a laugh at Wayne's exploits in 2004 and there is also full details of each weeks training sessions and lots of other interesting information.

Cancer Research UK is the nominated charity and people can sponsor him on line with the money going direct to the charity.
