Rat Pack Vegas Spectacular News

Thisisnottingham Review of Rat Pack Las Vegas Spectacular,
"A NIGHT OF PURE OF MAGIC" live form Newstead Abbey

LORD Byron would surely have approved. I mean there was a guy
who liked a party. Wine, women and song, carousing on his
front lawn, he would have loved it.

Byron, Sinatra, Dino and Sammy were kindred spirits. Like Arthur Seaton
once said, they were only out for a good time and the rest was propaganda.

Ilkeston-based Wayne Kennedy is the man behind this version of
the Rat Pack legend and the man responsible for bringing it to the
idyllic setting of Byron's ancestral home.

On a warm summer's evening, they came in their hundreds to see Sinatra, in the hands of oh so cool Roman Marek; Sammy Davis Jnr, played with passion and power by Patrick Kumah; and Dean Martin, aka the multi-talented
Mr Kennedy, and they didn't disappoint. All the famous songs were there:
Mr Bojangles, Ain't That A Kick In The Head, Chicago, What Kind Of Fool Am I, Volare, and so many more, all superbly performed by the trio, backed by a swinging eight-piece band, and two shapely dancers.

It might have been in the open air, but it had the feel of a
Las Vegas night with the booze and the jokes flowing freely.

And there was an extra touch of magic with the guest appearance of
Marilyn Monroe, brilliantly and breathlessly portrayed by Susie Kennedy.
She pulled one unsuspecting chap from the audience and sang her Happy Birthday Mr President song up close & personal for him, and then returned for Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend. As the dame said, she looked pretty good for 84 years old.

They did solos, duets and trios, clowned around and got the
audience to singalong, especially on the traditional stand-up,
high-kicking finale New York, New York.

LET IT SNOW LET IT SNOW LET IT SNOW

Great night at Weymouth apart from the drive home.
Avoiding jack knifed trucks and abandoned oil tankers
became a bit tricky as the white stuff came down heavy.

Harlow Essex also proved a tricky return on the roads
as just when we thought it had gone away, back it came.

Venue was all but sold out as it seems in very tough times
we continue to provide the perfect tonic to raise a smile.

BEDWORTH SUCCESS

Yet another venue declaring that we are their best seller,
which makes it I believe about five theatres in a row as
we continue to bring in the big crowds in tough times.
People want cheering up and that is exactly what we do.

Sunday also saw the debut of our new band theme tune,
great to see this self penned little ditty be so well received.

New lounge suits for the first set also looked real dapper.
Our new 2009 show additions has really helped us make
our January theatre dates a great start to the new year.

FRED COLLAPSES AT THE GYM

As the rest of the cast were on their way to Fridays gig
for this years return visit to The Bedford Corn Exchange,
Wayne received a call from Fred (Frank Sinatra) saying
he had collapsed at the gym and was in a bad way and
was still dizzy and would not be able to drive to the show.
Initial panic was subdued when Roman agreed to step in.

However he had to get to the show on a Friday afternoon
and the traffic situation resulted in a delay of 20 minutes.
Whilst the audience where not told of the reason for delay,
once underway it town turned out to be a fantastic night
with tremendous crown appreciation from start to finish.

Thankfully Fred is on the mend with no serious damage
and will be back for this Sundays show at Bedford Civic.

Wayne unsurprisingly has told Fred to get his fitness up
and as a favour given him extra training schedules !!!

THE RAT PACK VEGAS SPECTACULAR

After finishing our most successful year to date in fine style
with two hours of live television in Prague at Christmas -
2009 began with a great start at Artrix in Bromsgrove.

Nice to receive staff praise on the quality of our production
and they also deserve credit not only for their excellent work
but also for the pleasant and polite attitude shown by everyone.
Numbers were also very good and a busy night for early January.
