ENTERTAINMENT AGENCY

Please take into consideration the following important points.

Entertainment AgencyEntertainment agents should be strung up because they're all the same - robbing ******

How man times have we heard this and similar statements regarding the profession.

Even the word agent sounds dodgy surely you can never trust them ?

Now hang on a minute their are two sides to every story, lets take a look at both sides.

For

Entertainment Agents provide a useful service with advice, knowledge and communication between a person looking to book entertainment (who may not posses this important knowledge) and an artist.

An entertainment agency can broker a contract between the two parties that is binding in law and hopefully ensures that the artist sticks to their side of the agreement and the person looking to book entertainment (the client) sticks to theirs - so the event can go ahead successfully as planned.

A good entertainment agent can have a representative at the event ensuring that all is going well and can spot in advance possible problems.

Against
Making money is the prime objective of an agent - nothing wrong with that except that the artist and or possibly the client are paying for it.

Some entertainment agents send unsuitable acts to clients events
unfairly pushing their own managed acts as opposed to the best act.

In conclusion there are points both for and against so ask yourself this -

Do I need an entertainment agent - if you have the correct expertise in which you are about to part with money, know all the acts and options available to you and can issue contracts to cover yourself - then maybe not.

If you do not then there is a possibility of problems arising at your event.

Like in any other business there are sharks - but why have so many artists and clients continued to use the same agency for many many years - obviously because they are happy with the overall picture and service.

Here at Masters Entertainment Corporation we are happy to advise people for free whether they book with us or not and that is probably one of the best reasons why we are still here in business after 30 something years.

Things to Consider When

Booking a band or show consider the following

  1. Are they suitable for the venue.
  2. Are they suitable for your audience.
  3. Fee - prices vary dramatically
  4. On top of the fee are there other expenses involved
e.g. rider contract (drinks, meals, limo's, etc).
  5. Does the show have their own PA and lighting system.
  6. Playing time of 1 x 60 mins is a standard show time,
some do 2 x 45 mins and the odd one do more.
  7. Appeal of act for selling tickets and / or attracting a crowd.

Personally as a professional entertainer I would consider the following (although not all maybe relevant to your needs).

  • Showmanship
  • Vocal ability
  • Knowledge on the subject
  • Attitude and enthusiasm
  • Quality of musical backing
  • Visual aspects
  • Repertoire
  • Dress and presentation
  • Equipment
  • Star quality !!!

Further points to consider:

To pay out a ton of money for a massive 20 piece orchestra - sounds amazing. However this of little use if they do sound as good as a 4 piece or backing track.

Make sure if booking an act you are aware of exactly what your paying for.

In the 70's my friend was on holiday in Spain, saw an advert in the local paper and went to see as it said The Drifters from the USA - On came 4 white guys!

Funny now, but at the time he was not amused after shelling out good money, neither were the promoters who dealt with complaints from deceived customers.

We'll happily to advise you ON HOW NOT to waste time & money.

The old cliché - you get what you pay for usually still applies.

For an honest entertainment agent at a reputable entertainment agency regardless of whether or not you need to enquire about The Rat Pack Trio.
